I would like to convey my experience regarding the online consultation service from Kokilaben Hospital, Mumbai that I took yesterday. I consulted Dr. Sharad Sheth (Nephrologist) yesterday at 4pm. I needed his expert opinion for understanding and getting treatment for CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease). I am also suffering from diabetes, hypertension and hypothyroidism. We had prepared all our documents in an organised manner with a summary of all the treatments, the medication that I have been prescribed, symptoms and my vitals for the past 6+ months along with Biopsy report, Doppler and Ultrasound scans. We also attached my blood test report chart related to kidney profile (Createnine, BUN, Urea, Uric acid, GFR, HB, HBA1C, etc) for blood tests done in the past 6 months.
When we got on the video call with the doctor, he asked my symptoms and told me that he will prescribe some medicines. The call would have been not even 5 minutes long. He didn't discuss my medical history, or anything else. I explicitly asked him twice if he had went through all the scans and documents that I had shared, to which he said that he had and told me to share all documents on Whatsapp.
We were hoping to get some semblance about what decision to make regarding future treatments, any pointers on diet, any advise to prevent the disease from progressing further. However, what we got was name of 3 medicines which we were already prescribed. He didn't even read the present medicines that I was already taking. Just told me to add the 3 medicines to my current prescription. 2 of them, if I had blindly started taking could have caused my BP to dip to low levels. After bringing this to his notice, he simply told me to not take the medicine which had the same role as the one I was already taking.
Overall, it was a disappointing experience. If online consultations are going to be like this, I would suggest you to stop this altogether. We were educated enough to know what is right and wrong. For people who can't physically meet the doctor, if they take the medicine directly, God only knows what would happen to them. If consultation is not to be taken seriously, it should not be allowed entirely.
I would like to know what decision you will come to (as a hospital) after reading this feedback. It is a moral and ethical responsibility of yours to ensure the well being of any and all patients that come at your door.
