Poor internal coordination and medical oversight. Very bad.
We admitted my father-in-law for CKD treatment at Medanta, expecting high-quality care. While the facilities are excellent, the actual patient experience was frustrating and even dangerous at times.
Different specialists appeared to work in silos, with poor communication between departments. We often had to explain test results or remind doctors what medications had been given - something that should be basic. At one point, a serious prescription error occurred when a blood thinner was approved by the senior nephrologist before the perma-cath was inserted. It was only flagged at the billing counter by a junior doctor who happened to be around.
After a perma-cath insertion, additional tests were ordered - but results weren’t followed up on, and the main doctor asked US why the tests had even been done. We were paying for consultations where the doctor wasn’t even aware of prior treatment plans.
Most alarmingly, a fibular catheter from the first admission was never removed when a new neck line was created. This oversight wasn’t noticed until two days after discharge, when a technician flagged it, a basic safety miss.
At Medanta the care system lacks cohesion. For the premium prices they charge, we expected much better coordination, accountability, and patient safety. We have since moved to another hospital where the difference is night and day.
Once we had to pay an extra 2000rs to consult the doctor who was overseeing our case because the doctor himself called us twice to see him for the same report. And the billing counter said there is nothing to be done. Just bad all around.

Dr. SHYAM BANSAL has been checking and prescribing my dad's kidney issues for over 2 weeks. He didn't remember what he had prescribed and was unable to tell why such prescription has been made.
