Hi all, Around Easter I got two bumps on my neck, so I decided to take a look on the reviews to know in what I would get into. I must admit that I got very disapointed with the reviews they were really bad. My reality is different. After a lot of blood exams, two biopses, 1 contrast exame I was dignosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. On 03/05 I had a surgery to remove one of the nodules. All, (and I really mean all the staff) profissional that I found on on department for ear/ troath and nose were amazing. Not only amazing professionals but also caring, they were there for me and they went beyond expectations. After the surgery I was followed by Hematology and once again I can only tell you that I found good people and good professionals. I am on my 3rd chemeo (missing one) and they are helping me to go trough it. I have an “Angel” that does all my chemeo treatments and I still remember the first day, her first words were “I am here for you”. I am sharing my experience because sometimes going to hospital is scary. I hope you find good professionals as I did.

Apart from the receptionist (at the ER) this is a quality hospital with acceptable food and qualified Staff. The rooms are spacious and even have a television set. Also everyone speaks English. Generally it's the better choice than Triemli... I've heard horrible things about Triemli, really just don't go there.

I've had mixed experiences based on the various departments and doctors/nurses within the departments. I can share very positive feedback about reproductive endocrinology (e.g., compassionate and competent doctors, excellent communication, responsive and timely over my repeated visits: 5 stars) and hematology (e.g., only one visit, but it was efficient and easy: 5 stars). I've mostly positive feedback about gynaecology (e.g., some caring and communicative doctors for whom I was grateful during my week-long stay but also others treated me like an object to observe but not engage with, gave conflicting information or no explanation of tests/treatments: 3.5 stars). I've mixed feedback about radiology and immunology (e.g., had to wait an hour for each for basic tests, because I was forgotten and/or it seemed chaotic--admin or tech issues, perhaps?: 2.5 stars). Importantly, this is also a teaching hospital, so I realize some are still learning and our experience also contributes to their education and research--and this helps us as a society overall (and I don't think it ever interfered with my treatment or health, but sometimes things took a little longer or had to be double-checked with a more senior doctor). The hospital itself also seems interested in feedback and improvement, as I've received and responded to patients surveys after several visits. I totally support this type of mindset and approach. Overall, definitely recommend USZ.

World class healthcare but the admin and invoicing department is a shambles. There's no online portal where you can check your account. The invoices are so long and complicated that they are impossible to understand. They also refuse to translate invoices into French or English. They make mistakes and then expect the customers to deal with the fallout which leads to very stressful situations where I'm constantly having to worry about the money even though I'm 100% covered by my international insurance. They also charge charge me 31% more because I'm a non resident.

I’ve been going to the USZ for almost a year. My family doctor referred me for chronic stomach issues. The doctors have all been great but the administrative staff is horrible. The staff at check-in is unfriendly and not helpful at all. My telephone number was wrong for months and I told them, but it took the dietitian to change it after I have miss an appointment because I was never notified of when it was scheduled. I’ve had members of the nursing staff refuse to speak in English to me and tell me that I live in Switzerland and I should be speaking Swiss German. I don’t care how well versed I am in German, I want to discuss important matters in English so I don’t misunderstand. I have finally asked for a transfer to an outside gastrointestinal specialist and I hope that I will never have to go back to USZ. There is one receptionist in the gastro department that has been very kind about speaking English, I don’t want her to be thrown into the mix. I appreciate that she made me feel comfortable. I do not know her name.

5 stars for the staff; big thanks to all of them! However, the overall experience was really bad. My girlfriend had to stay in ~22sqm room together with 2 other women and 3 infants. It was so crammed the cabinets weren't accessible and for each room only 2 visitors were allowed at any time. Some doctors and midwives told us the hospital management recently closed an entire floor of the maternity ward and cut over half of the staff. I never would have expected to see such conditions in the biggest hospital in Zurich.

The leading doctors are competent. However, the administration system is horrific and obviously lacks any monitoring and supervision. Arrogant secretaries, without any medical training, feel themselves empowered to block access to doctors, essentially randomly decide the priority of cases and ultimately delay cures without reasons. I strongly advice the heads of the various clinics to check what their secretaries do, because after experiencing this same problem in multiple clinics, it is clear that this is an endemic and dangerous disease the USZ is suffering from.
